Dreaming big at the age of 12, O’Leary’s first attempt at her craft was a larger-than-life portrait – foreshadowing her distinct use of size and scale. Following the encouragement of her art teachers, she pursued classical art training at the School of Visual Arts in NYC where she honed her skill and developed her independent and sought-after style. To look at O’Leary’s work is to see a true synergy between the medium and the muse. The soft subtle lines, ethereal mood and warm tones of her subject are only heightened by the powdery effect of her Pastels. Working with pastels since her third year of art school, O’Leary felt an instant connection to the medium as though she’d “found an old friend”. She immediately discovered that the vivid, yet quiet result of pastels elevated her work. O’Leary has an unmatched ability to find the natural beauty that live in her surroundings. Whether it’s the calm before a summer thunderstorm, or the afternoon light on a bowl of fruit, O’Leary captures the stillness and beauty of a moment in time that the audience can then appreciate for eternity.
